Hi, I am a student of Computer Engineering at the National University of Engineering, Nicaragua, I have 25 years and I am finishing my thesis and now I’m about to graduate, curiously studied medicine 2 years before entering my career.
But leave medicine to pursue my dream of being a programmer, I still remember that time around the year 2005, reading magazines HACKXCRACK, knowing Ubuntu and learning to program in VB6 and PHP wonderful times.
Without any difficulty aprove the entrance exam to my university since they were basic questions in math, at least for me they were in my country usually only 2 percent pass the exam. The only problem was the desilucion my mother at inform her that I did not want to follow a career in medicine and that she would no longer have the doctor that she always dreamed, but I could not continue studying that career just was not my thing, but descepcion that today is gratitude and relief.
I’m finally here, five years of hard study and hard work in college classes, basically wasted time. Why? Why all this knowledge was mostly useless, at least in my case, you’ll see my career it is a combination, a bit of electronic engineering, networking, system development and software engineering without being any of those things at once . Classes given by teachers with little experience in the real labor area teachers who all his experience has been reciting the curriculum of the college, university curriculum that has since the year 1995 I can hardly remember teachers who could give their classes properly at least within the subjects that had relevance for my

Well, of course that most of my college classmates at finish their study were only able to get only mediocre and poorly paid jobs with no experience of having developed a serious system throughout his career, without knowing any real technology applied in the real world, I think what most aspire to win is around 400 or 500 dollars a month now and the worst thing is they seem to be happy with that, but what is my case? While I am well above the average I earn 900 (for now) a month is obviously not a lot of money and I’m not staying embers crossed with that number but I assure you that in a country like mine you have to be very grateful to have that salary.
But that does not mean I have not worked in any mediocre jobs I’ve had many of those jobs at contrary i have a lot of then, but which have been my keys to be above average:
Take extracurricular courses, I participated in a course on PHP at hanging out to the initiative of a group in college, they collected money to pay among all the course themselves, I take another course of development in JAVA sponsored by an initiative of the Embassy India in my country and the learning center NIIT.
And Hungry for knowledge, always read and try new things, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER be satisfied with only approve a class
In my 3 year watched sadly as my classmates had never used and could not use system version control (SVN, GIT) or something as basic as using documents in the cloud to work collaboratively (true history) I think always the wanted teach them , but they were very busy passing classes.
A good knowledge of the English language but I can not speak fluent English I read and I fully understand the youtube video tutorials, articles and books in PDF.
But mostly my main concern was to survive and help my family survive also, very early I started looking internship to gain experience and deal with real problems, my nightmare was not able to get get work career was over when companies ask for experience for serious jobs. but especially for such eager to make money.
But this prior to completing the career, in my country, in my situation as many is simply trying to survive.
You will see may be that this sounds extreme but in my country is pretty normal, I have support from my father, it is my career my sister studying 2nd law, I keep my sister of 11 year and you can guess that at I have an unemployed mother of 47 years, I’m the only economic support of them, my family depends on me (1 mother, 2 sisters, 1 dog). Sometimes it’s hard to spend all your payment in the needs of your home and not saving for that smarthphone that you want and stay witch you NOKIA C3, that pair of shoes, this tablet or laptop with your dreams, even a pair of pants. It’s not fair but it is my responsibility and what they need before what I want, but it’s a weight I am proud to carry like every one else that love his family.
